It is the first step in a vision to establish an international center for the study of Indian civilization and culture. (Full-sized photo) Packard Foundation supports UCSC Arboretum with $300,000 grant The David and Lucile Packard Foundation of Los Altos has granted $309,757 to the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, home to some of the world's finest collections of plants from the Southern Hemisphere and California. Nation's first oiled wildlife center opens next to Long Marine Lab State and local officials dedicated the new Oiled Wildlife Veterinary Care and Research Center today (July 21) in a ceremony on UCSC property next to the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory. The $5 million facility is the first of its kind in the nation. (Full-sized photo) Numbers up for freshmen planning to attend UC Nearly 25,200 California high school graduates are planning to attend the University of California as freshmen in the fall, up nearly 5 percent over last year. The number of incoming students planning to attend UCSC is also expected to rise.
