President Atkinson welcomes sixth-graders to UCSC during inaugural week
UC President Richard Atkinson's visit to campus included a meeting with local K-12 representatives, a visit to the Lick Observatory shops, and a welcome from Branciforte Elementary's graduating class.

On Tuesday, June 24, Chancellor Greenwood will meet with staff and answer their questions at ÒAsk the Chancellor.Ó Staff are welcome to bring their lunches to the event.

Nationally syndicated column published about "science studies" conference
"Science, Science Studies, and Their Critics" were the subjects of a well-attended conference at UCSC in mid-May. Among those present was Linda Seebach, editorial page editor of the Valley Times in Pleasanton and the San Ramon Valley Times in Danville. Seebach subsequently wrote an opinion column about the conference, which is reprinted here.

Shakespeare SC announces 16th season
Shakespeare Santa Cruz's 16th season is scheduled to take place on the UCSC campus from July 17 through August 31.

Summer construction: Projects under way and in the pipeline
From installing modular housing to planning a new fitness center, construction crews and campus planners will be busy with a number of projects on campus this summer. In a related project, lighting fixtures in 3,000 offices across campus will be upgraded or replaced.

Prominent poet to read at annual meeting of Friends of the UCSC Library
Poet and UCSC faculty member Peter Gizzi will read from his works during the 31st annual meeting of the Friends of the UCSC Library on Thursday, June 12.

From RNA to football: UCSC hosts a wide range of summer conferences
UCSC will host nearly 60 camps, conferences, institutes, and meetings this summer, on subjects ranging from the structure of RNA to playing football. One of these conferences, the Dickens Universe, will focus on David Copperfield and Pride and Prejudice.
