UCSC faculty, students entertain in Sacramento

By Elizabeth Irwin

Before an audience of about three dozen Regents, legislators, and alumni, three faculty members and their students gave dazzling evidence of UCSC's outstanding teaching and research at a dinner held in Sacramento on March 31.

The faculty/undergraduate teams who helped showcase UCSC were professor of theater arts Paul Whitworth and his student Coco Medvitz; assistant professor of physics Sue Carter and her student Jill Nephew; and assistant professor of environmental studies Daniel Press and his student Michelle Renee.

Chancellor Greenwood introduced each faculty member, who in turn gave an overview of her or his research interests and teaching philosophy. The faculty then introduced the students, whose accounts of their educational experiences at UCSC captivated the audience.

Held at the Sacramento home of State Govermental Relations Director Stephen Arditti and his wife Melva, the event was attended by several distinguished alumni and Regent Charles Soderquist. Members of the California Legislature attending included Senator Bruce McPherson, Senator John Vasconcellos, Senator Cathie Wright, Assembly Member Dennis Cardoza, and Assembly Member Gary Miller.
