June 19, 2000 Accolades Mark Franko Professor of theater arts Mark Franko choreographed and directed a production of Monteverdi's dramatic madrigals "Ballo delle Ingrate" and "Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda," a collaboration between his company NovAntiqua and Magnificat, an early music group from the Bay Area. Franko also danced the title role of Tancredi in performances of the madrigal staged at Berkeley, Palo Alto, and San Francisco. In early June, Franko presented a paper titled "Sanasardo/Feuer: Une Leçon de Danse" at a conference on contemporary dance held in Fontvieille, France. While in France, he also gave a talk on the development of dance studies and his own work at the Dance Department of the University of Paris VIII, where he will be a visiting professor in spring 2001. Thomas Clark Thomas Clark, a tree trimmer at Physical Plant, has successfully completed the Certified Arborist examination administered through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and the local chapter of the ISA. The ISA certification program is designed to identify those professionals who have demonstrated a thorough knowledge of tree-care practices and are up to date on the latest techniques and information. Daniel Friedman, Michael Dooley Economics professor Daniel Friedman recently gave a talk about financial markets during a meeting at the Santa Fe Institute that was attended by money managers, physicists, and economists. His colleague Michael Dooley discussed capital flows and financial volatility at a World Bank Conference in Washington, D.C. Dooley also participated in a daylong meeting on international financial markets that was organized by the Economics Department of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.
