University Relations Print and Digital Communications

The Communications and Marketing Office (C&M) provides design, production, editorial, and photographic support--from concept through delivery of final product. C&M produces print and digital projects for audiences that include both prospective and current students, donors and potential donors, alumni, parents, and the general public. Projects include the UCSC Foundation's Annual Report, signature-event collateral for University Relations, projects for Major Gifts and Campaigns, and flagship publications. C&M also maintains the campus's brand standards, editorial style guide, and informational web pages that present facts, statistics, and distinctions.

Submitting a Project

Your project will be scheduled once your Print/Digital Communication Project Request has been completed and reviewed. Please allow sufficient lead time so that C&M staff can schedule your project to meet desired time frames.

When submitting a project request, please be prepared to provide:

  • Goals
  • Audience information
  • Desired format (print, online, etc.)
  • Definitive content *
  • Budget
  • Due date

During an initial intake interview, we will also discuss:

  • Method of payment
  • Purchase orders
  • Mailing lists (as appropriate)

Additional guidelines:

  • Provide input in Microsoft Word and keep formatting to a minimum. (Please do not design the project in the initial document.)
  • Submit photos and artwork electronically in either JPEG or TIFF format, 300 dpi, in the approximate final size at which they will be used in the published document. (If you're not sure about how to do this, ask us.)
  • Ensure that all factual information is accurate (names, dates, statistics), and that input has been reviewed thoroughly by all individuals who are responsible for the accuracy of the information submitted. (C&M has limited bandwidth for fact-checking.)
  • Designate a contact person for each project. That individual's signature will be requested on the final proof and will constitute approval of the project.

All design services will include one round of revisions. Corrections will be made and checked for accuracy by C&M staff before printing or posting electronically.

* Final copy is needed to begin design work. Copy is subject to editing.
