Of Note

Variations on a City Garden is the title of a symposium and garden tour presented by the Arboretum on Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20. On Saturday morning, three well-known Santa Cruz landscape architects, Ellen Cooper, Michael Arnone, and Roy Rydell, will share plans and solutions for city gardens; in the afternoon there will be tours of four private gardens, followed by tea. Tours of two more private gardens, an optional tour of the Arboretum, and visits to local nurseries are planned for Sunday. The cost is $45 for members of the Arboretum Associates and $60 for nonmembers, which includes lunch and tea on Saturday. To register or for more information, call (408) 427-1524.

The Great Multicultural Earring, Ring, and Bracelet Exchange--a just-for-fun event sponsored by the Diversity Education Program--will take place Wednesday, July 16, in the Cowell Student Health Center Conference Room. Check-in will begin at 12:10 p.m., with a display period from 12:20 to 12:30 p.m., followed by the exchange. Items not selected will be returned to their owners. For more information, contact the Diversity Education Program at (408) 459-5087 or via e-mail at gwenny@cats.ucsc.edu.
