Friends of UC Santa Cruz celebrated the new Jack Baskin School of Engineering at a news conference and luncheon on May 16 at the Silicon Valley Capital Club in downtown San Jose. The school is named in recognition of a $5 million gift from philanthropist and retired developer and engineer Jack Baskin.

Speakers at the news conference were, from left: President Robert L. Caret of San Jose State University; Jack Baskin; Patrick Mantey, dean designate of the School of Engineering; Chancellor M.R.C. Greenwood; and Gordon Ringold, president of Affymax Research Institute, Palo Alto.
