Marc Mangel challenges ecologists to change their methodology
Environmental studies professor Marc Mangel has issued a call to his colleagues to use more sophisticated statistical methods to test their data against their descriptions of the world. Toward that end, Mangel has prepared "a new kind of tool kit" for ecologists to use.

Siting of new fitness center subject of forum
Members of the UCSC and Santa Cruz communities are invited to a public forum on Thursday, April 17, to discuss possible sites for a new fitness and weight-training center in the East Field House area.

UCSC to contribute to national supercomputing partnership
The National Science Foundation is negotiating an agreement with UC San Diego to revolutionize high-performance computing resources for the nation's scientists and engineers. UCSC is one of 37 institutions that will contribute to the program.

Astronomer to speak on successes of Hubble Space Telescope
In an upcoming public lecture, UCSC astronomer Sandra Faber will treat a Santa Cruz audience to some of the stunning images glimpsed by the Hubble Space Telescope since its repair. Her talk, "The Latest Images from the Hubble Space Telescope: Delight at the End of the Tunnel," will take place Friday, April 18.
