Jennifer Gonzalez, assistant professor of art history, has been awarded the Joanne Cassullo Fellowship at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. As a Cassullo Fellow, Gonzalez is in residence for the fall quarter at
the Whitney, where she is conducting seminars on modern and contemporary
art practice and critical theory, providing guidance to Curatorial Program
students on exhibition projects, and serving as an adviser to students
in the Critical Studies Program. Diane Gifford-Gonzalez, professor of anthropology, is one of 10 archaeologists
elected to a four-year term on the International Committee of the International
Conference of Archaeozoology (ICAZ). A
book by Susanne Jonas, a lecturer in Latin American and Latino studies,
has been designated an Outstanding Academic Title for 2001 by Choice
magazine. Choice publishes reviews of scholarly books for academic libraries.
The annual list of outstanding academic titles appears each year in the
January issue of the magazine. Jonas's book Of Centaurs and Doves
was selected. The award recognizes overall excellence in presentation
and scholarship, importance relative to other literature in the field,
originality, value to undergraduates, and other factors. The Society of Experimental Social Psychology recently announced that
its highest honor will be awarded to Thomas F. Pettigrew, research professor
of social psychology. He will receive the Distinguished Scientist Award
at the Society's annual meeting at Ohio State University in October. The
award recognizes Pettigrew's scientific contributions throughout his career
to the understanding of intergroup relations.
