The Committee on Teaching announces the 1996-97 Excellence in Teaching Awards

This spring the Academic Senate will recognize up to eight UCSC instructors for teaching that is exemplary and inspiring. Any full-time or part-time faculty member is eligible for an award.

Nominations are invited from students. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. on Monday, April 21.

Nominations must be produced on a computer or typed. Students should address the following points in their nominations:

• Enthusiasm for the subject and for teaching

• Course content--Is it challenging and stimulating?

• Course preparation and organization (e.g., syllabus, lecture/discussion, assignments, exams)

• Commitment to students' learning

• Availability, helpfulness, and responsiveness

• Overall fairness

Each nomination must be endorsed by at least five people. Students, other faculty, and staff can all endorse student-authored nominations. On a separate page, please include the following for the nominator and each additional signer:

* Name
* Signature
* Campus affiliation
* How you know the nominee

Each nomination and separate endorsement page should be sent to:
