Audrey Stanley receives Gail Rich Award

Audrey Stanley, professor emerita of theater arts, received a Gail Rich Community Award as a scholar and theater director. She also recently directed a prepared reading of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida for the Shakespeare Association of America's Annual Conference in Minneapolis.

Stanley acted as part of the Chorus in Nigel Sanders Self's production of Aeschylus' Agamemnon at UCSC's Second Stage. She additionally directed Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well for the 15th season of Nashville's Shakespeare Festival in Centennial Park.

Stanley is the founding artistic director of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. She is currently an associate director of SSC, as well as a member of the board of directors.

John Mock wins award for Sierra hiking guide

Hiking in the Sierra Nevada, a book by Hindi and Urdu Lecturer John Mock and Kimberly O’Neil, was named the winner of the 2002 National Outdoor Book Award for Best Adventure Guidebook.

Published by Lonely Planet Publications, the book was chosen by a panel of educators, academics, book reviewers, authors, editors, and outdoor columnists from throughout the country. The National Outdoor Book Awards is the outdoor world’s largest and most prestigious book award program.
