July 8, 2002 Appointments Native American Resource Center welcomes new director Dennis Tibbetts has been appointed director of the Native American Resource Center. Tibbetts is an enrolled member of the White Earth Ojibwe in Minnesota. For the past two years, he has been an associate professor in the Department of Counselor Education at San José State University. Prior to this Tibbetts was an associate professor in the School of Education at Northern Michigan University for four years. During this time, he served on the advisory committee to the American Indian Office of Education for the state of Michigan and was the director of the Center of Native American Studies at Northern Michigan University. Tibbetts has a bachelor's degree in history from Oakland University in
Rochester, Michigan; a master's degree in counselor education from Central
Michigan University; and Ph.D. in counselor education from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a high school teacher and counselor
as well as a clinical counselor at several university counseling centers. The campus community is invited to a welcome reception for Tibbetts on Monday, July 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Ethnic Resource Center.
