Awards and Honors
Diversity efforts honored
Members of the campus community and programs making substantial contributions
to furthering diversity were showcased in May 9 at the Diversity Awards
Luncheon at University House. This year's award winners were David Belanger,
professor of physics; Judy Yung, professor of American studies;
Mary Silver, professor of ocean sciences; Jesse Magana and Ilse Kolbus,
Physical Plant; the Division of Student Affairs; the Library Cultural
Diversity Committee; Francisco Hernandez, vice chancellor of Student
Affairs; and
Tara Madhyastha, assistant professor of computer engineering. Chancellor
Greenwood presented the awards.

The awards program and event were cosponsored by the Equal Employment
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Office, Staff Human Resources, Academic
Human Resources, and the Chancellor's Office.

Professor Phillip Crews, chemistry; Tony Garcia, Math, Engineering and
Science Achievement; Professor Barry Bowman, Professor Leo Ortiz, and
Bernice Frankl for Minority Access to Research Careers and Minority
Biomedical Research Support.
