Alma Sifuentes

Alma Sifuentes is the new director of residential and dining services. Prior to taking this position, she served as the college administrative officer of Stevenson College for seven years. Sifuentes has a B.A. in economics from UCSC and an M.A. in public policy studies from Duke University. She has over 11 years experience in higher education administration with work in student life, retention, student development, student leadership, and academic success.

Sue Matthews

Sue Matthews has been selected for the position of director of business and support services for the colleges, housing, dining, and child care services. Before accepting this position, Matthews served as the college administrative officer at Crown College for two years. Matthews earned her B.S. in business administration from San Diego State University and an M.A. in social sciences from Azusa Pacific University. She is in the process of earning her Ph.D. in philosophy and education from Claremont Graduate University. Matthews has over 12 years experience in higher education administration. In addition, she is the immediate past president of the Western Association of College and University Housing Officers executive committee and served as cochair of the 2001 Western Association of College and University Housing Officers Annual Conference.

Kevin Browne

Kevin Browne has been chosen to fill the position of executive director of undergraduate admissions and university registrar.

Browne's experiences include national and international enrollment management and teaching appointments. He comes to UCSC from the Fielding Graduate Institute in southern California where he served as the director of enrollment and student services. His prior experience includes university outreach in Japan, England, Kuwait, Turkey, and many other countries; assistant vice president for enrollment services at the American University in Cairo; and university registrar and director of admissions and university outreach at California State University, Los Angeles. Browne has also held teaching appointments at the American University in Cairo and Purdue University.

Regents appointments announced

Governor Davis announced the appointments of Monica Lozano and Norman Pattiz as members of the Regents of the University of California. Lozano, of Los Angeles, is president and chief operating officer of La Opinion newspaper. Pattiz, of Beverly Hills, is founder and chairman of the board of Westwood One, America's largest radio network. The appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. Full press release
