Shakespeare Santa Cruz extends its summer festival season; special discounts available for faculty and staff

Due to a high demand for tickets, Shakespeare Santa Cruz (SSC) has extended its summer festival season through Sunday, September 3, adding nine performances. These are:

  • Cymbeline: Wednesday, August 30; Friday, September 1; and Saturday, September 2--all at 8 p.m.
  • Kean: Wednesday, August 30; Friday, September 1; and Saturday, September 2--all at 8 p.m.
  • Love's Labour's Lost: Thursday, August 31, 8 p.m.; Saturday, September 2, 2 p.m.; and Sunday, September 3, 2 p.m.

SSC also offers a discount on tickets to UCSC staff and faculty. Regular single-ticket prices range from $24 to $32, but are available to UCSC employees for $21. The special ticket prices are available for all shows between Sunday evening and Friday evening but cannot be used for Saturday or Sunday matinees. For tickets, call (831) 459-2159.

UCSC Forum on Community Television

Below is the schedule for UCSC Forum for August. Shows air at 8 p.m. Sundays with a rebroadcast at 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays on Community Television, Channel 72. Note: Because of its 2 hour 23 minute run time, the Magic Flute will have a special airing on Sunday (8/13) only, and the Wednesday (8/16) slot
will feature the 1998 MLK convocation speaker.

  • August 16: 1998 Martin Luther King Jr. convocation with Myrlie Evers-Williams (repeat)
  • August 20: Peter Gizzi, "Is Chivalry Dead? Love Poetry in the Modern Age" (repeat) (rebroadcast August 23)
  • August 27: Angela Oh on "Racial Politics" (presented by the UCSC Women's Center) (rebroadcast August 30)

Summer hours for campus eateries

  • Whole Earth Restaurant (831-426-8255) - Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Kresge Cafe (831-429-6606) - Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Stevenson Coffee House (831-459-2433) - Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.
