TO: THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Re: Campus Move-In Information

Dear Colleagues:

I write to apprise you of the move-in schedule of new and transfer students for fall quarter. This year college move-in for new frosh and transfers occurs Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. As always, we expect heavy traffic and congestion with approximately 1,300 students arriving each day.

For your information and assistance, we have created two move-in "keys" which detail the move-in schedule for each day with planned traffic flow. These two keys have been mailed to each campus unit and are also available on the Web at events.ucsc.edu/movein98/. Please also note that the commercial services fair (banks, phone companies, airlines, etc.) for new students will be held at the OPERS East Field House from Saturday, September 26 through Wednesday, September 30.

If you can take the bus, carpool or otherwise minimize vehicular traffic on campus throughout the move-in period, you'll make the process of moving into the residence spaces easier and more efficient. As many of you are already aware, construction is taking place at the Baytree lot and College Nine. To provide better accommodate students who must visit Student Services during this period, the Hahn parking lot will be converted to 2 hours parking only from Friday, September 25 to Wednesday, September 30. Staff are encouraged to park at the Performing Arts or East Remote lots for those days. Extra shuttles will be running from those lots to provide transportation to Hahn and McHenry Library every 5-7 minutes. Further information about this parking change will be provided by supervisors in Hahn Student Services and McHenry Library.

As the campus community gears up for the arrival of fall quarter, I ask that you remember how bewildering our scenic campus can be for guests and new students. Please take the extra step to offer directions or assistance to those in need. First impressions last a long, long time.

If you have questions about move-in, please feel free to contact the University Events Office at ext. 9-2826. Again, this memo and its attachments are also listed on the Web @ events.ucsc.edu/movein98/.

Cordially,

Trink Praxel, Director
University Events Office
