Re: Retirement of Associate Chancellor for Planning and Budget Richard Jensen

Dear Campus Colleagues:

It is with mixed feelings that I announce that Richard W. Jensen will retire after a long and distinguished career with the University of California. He has been an employee of UC since 1964, including 26 years at UC Santa Barbara, prior to his arrival here in 1990. Although he certainly deserves to enjoy his well-earned retirement, we will miss his expertise and excellent service.

Dick's retirement from his position of Associate Chancellor for Planning and Budget will commence officially on February 11, 1999, but he will continue to consult here as Special Assistant to the Executive Vice Chancellor until June 1.

Dick's position will be filled on an interim basis by Budget Director Karen Eckert. A national search for a permanent replacement to lead the campus's planning and budget operation will begin very soon.

Please join me in congratulating Dick Jensen on his imminent retirement and thanking him for nearly 35 years of service to the University of California.

Cordially yours,
John B. Simpson
Executive Vice Chancellor
