Aleutian Island brethren of this Monterey Bay sea otter, floating in a bed of kelp, carry unexpectedly high levels of the industrial contaminant PCB. UCSC researchers also found PCBs and DDT in the eggs of bald eagles in the western Aleutians. The pollutants could affect the reproductive health of the animals.
