TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Re: Appointment of Dean Fitch as Acting Director of Community Planning and Land Development

I am pleased to announce that Senior Superintendent Dean Fitch will serve as Acting Director of Community Planning and Land Development for the period of March 1 through June 30, 1997. In this role, Acting Director Fitch will report to Assistant Vice Chancellor of Physical Planning and Construction Frank Zwart. Community Planning and Land Development Director Michael Houlemard has accepted the position of interim executive officer of the Fort Ord Reuse Authority (FORA) for the period of March 1, 1997 through August 27, 1997 and will be on leave from the University of California during that time. Principal Planner Graham Bice will continue in his current position as Director of Physical and Environmental Planning for the UCMBEST Center.

Acting Director Fitch has been the Senior Superintendent of Grounds for the Physical Plant since March 31, 1994, and has over sixteen years' experience in land management and landscape architecture at UC Santa Cruz. Fitch was a senior architectural associate from March 31, 1992 through March 30, 1994 and has served as the Chair of the Campus Land Use Management Advisory Committee (CLUMAC) since October 1994. Fitch is a California licensed landscape architect and a certified instructor of landscape management at Cabrillo College.

In 1995, Fitch developed the campus Waste Diversion Master Plan, which has increased campus recycling diversion by approximately 10%. He also developed the campus Landscape Management Program, which outlines landscape management strategies and their environmental impacts for developed and undeveloped campus lands.

Acting Director Fitch brings a combination of campus land management, landscape architecture and program development experience to support campus physical planning and community development efforts during Director Houlemard's absence.

Sincerely,

Thomas Vani
Vice Chancellor
Business and Administrative Services
