Annual Dickens Holiday Evening features Victorian food, music and merry-making

Join the Friends of the Library for the annual Dickens Holiday Evening at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 13, in the McHenry Library foyer. The gathering features music, food, and holiday items for sale. It is free and open to the public and children are welcome.

Highlights of the evening include a musical performance by Gene Lewis and Robert Fenwick of the Dickens Players who will sing songs and recreate scenes from Dickens's works and lead a sing-along of holiday favorites. The Friends will also present a gift to the Dickens Project. This year's gift is a four-volume anthology of Dickens scholarship through the ages titled Charles Dickens: Critical Assessments. The anthology will be housed in the University Library.

Guests will be treated to a delicious array of Victorian holiday treats, and a holiday gift shop will feature greeting cards, tee-shirts, book bags, and aprons with the Friends' unique "book in the trees" logo. The event is sponsored by the Dickens Project and the Friends of the Library. For more information, call ext. 4211.
