UCSC's annual United Way drive under way

Volunteers in every campus unit are distributing information for the annual United Way campaign. Staff and faculty who wish to participate have the option of offering a one-time voluntary contribution by check or arranging a payroll deduction. Donations can be made to United Way or to any nonprofit agency in the county. Pledges are due by November 25.

UCSC faculty and staff have participated in the drive since its inception in the 1960s. Last year, the UCSC community contributed more than $65,900, winning the campus the gold award for making the highest contribution in the education category, said Carol Lacey, the campus campaign coordinator. Total UCSC contributions to United Way over the past ten years have exceeded half a million dollars. The campaign takes place on campus with the assistance of this year's cochairs, Eli Silver and Richard Vasquez, and volunteers in each campus unit.

United Way of Santa Cruz County represents 36 local social service agencies.
