March 1, 2000 UC Santa Cruz faculty member examines the U.S. presidency FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SANTA CRUZ, CA--Peggy Downes-Baskin, a senior lecturer in women's studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, will present a talk titled "The American Presidency" on Thursday March 9 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center, 705 Front St., Santa Cruz. The talk is a part of the Humanities Lecture Series, sponsored jointly by UCSC's Humanities Division and the Museum of Art and History. The talk is free and open to the public. A reception follows. Downes-Baskin has taught and written on presidential elections and leadership styles for more than two decades. She also has expertise on the subject of women and women's leadership styles and has taught on the subject of women and power in politics and the media. She is also interested in the challenges faced by women aged 52-90 and is the principal author of the book, The New Older Woman (1996).
