UCSC Farm offers introductory beekeeping class

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SANTA CRUZ, CA--Learn the basics of beekeeping at an introductory class being offered Saturday, May 8, by the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz. The class will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the UCSC Farm.

The workshop will cover everything you need to know, including an overview of colony organization and the seasonal activities of bees, equipment and useful tools for beekeeping, dividing colonies, and catching swarms. There will be plenty of time for questions.

Instructor Albie Miles is a graduate of UCSC's Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture.

The fee for the class is $10 for the general public; $5 for members of the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden.

The UCSC Farm is located 1/4 mile up the gravel road above the Blacksmith Shop; free public parking is available across the street from the Blacksmith Shop in the Physical Plant parking lot.

The class is being offered by the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems with support from the Friends of the UCSC Farm & Garden.
