FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SANTA CRUZ, CA--Menzie Chinn, an assistant professor of economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, has been named a faculty research fellow in the International Finance and Macroeconomics group of the National Bureau of Economic Research, Inc.

Chinn, who joined the UCSC faculty in 1991, specializes in international finance. He is currently working on capital-market integration in Europe and the Pacific Rim.

Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is a private, nonprofit research organization founded in 1920 to promote "a greater understanding of how the economy works." Headed by Martin Feldstein, NBER is the nation's leading economic research organization, sponsoring conferences and producing working papers for public policy makers, business professionals, and the academic community. NBER has more than 300 research associates and 150 faculty research fellows, all of whom are professors of economics or business at universities throughout the U.S. and abroad.

The International Finance and Macroeconomics group that Chinn will join is headed by Jeffrey Frankel, who is now on leave to serve on the President's Council of Economic Advisers in Washington, D.C.
