October 23, 1996 Contact: Barbara McKenna (408) 459-2495; mckenna@ua.ucsc.edu OCTOBER 31 RECEPTION PLANNED FOR "STUDENTS' VOICES" EXHIBIT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SANTA CRUZ, CA--A reception is planned for the exhibit, "Students' Voices: Three Decades Strong," on Thursday, October 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the McHenry Library courtyard at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The reception is free and open to the public. Halloween treats will be served. Guest speakers at the reception include representatives from UCSC student organizations as well as associate professor of women's studies Bettina Aptheker, Santa Cruz mayor and community studies lecturer Mike Rotkin, director of Student Organization Advising and Resources Alice Williams, and multicultural outreach librarian Deborah Turner. Guests are invited to come in costume representing their most treasured student concern. The exhibition represents 30 years of student expression, displaying such items as poster art, T-shirts, research papers, books, journals, armbands, and newspapers. Visitors are invited to take a mini-quiz on the exhibit; a prize will be awarded the day of the reception to the person who answers the most questions correctly. The exhibit runs through December 13 and is open to the public during library hours. For more information, call (408) 459-4000.
