UC SANTA CRUZ READING FEATURES LEADING WOMAN POET AND NOVELIST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SANTA CRUZ, CA--The Living Writers Cluster at the University of California, Santa Cruz, presents a poetry reading with Barbara Guest on Thursday, May 15, at 4 P.M. at Kresge College Seminar Room 159. The reading is free and open to the public.

Guest, 77, was born in North Carolina in 1920 and grew up in Florida and California. After graduating from UC Berkeley she settled in New York City where she was one of the few leading women in the emerging movement of the New York Poets and artists of Abstract-Expressionism. She is the author of Herself Defined (1984), an acclaimed biography of the modernist poet H.D. Among her works are The Location of Things, Poems, The Blue Stars, Moscow Mansions, and The Countess from Minneapolis. She is also the author of the novel Seeking Air (1978). Her most recent books are Fair Realism, Defensive Rapture (1993), Selected Poems (1995), and Quill Solitary Apparition (1996).
