April 30, 1997 Contact: Barbara McKenna (408) 459-2495; mckenna@ua.ucsc.edu POETRY AND PAINTING SUBJECT OF HUMANITIES LECTURE ON MAY 8 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SANTA CRUZ, CA--A talk on "Poetry and Painting" will be presented by two University of California, Santa Cruz, professors. John Dizikes, professor of American studies, and Doug McClellan, professor emeritus of art, will present their joint talk on Thursday, May 8, from 7 to 8 P.M. at the Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center, 705 Front St. The talk is part of the Humanities Lecture Series, sponsored jointly by UCSC's Humanities Division and the Museum of Art and History. The talk is free and open to the public. A reception follows. The focus of the talk will be The White Gallery--a book of poetry on painters written by McClellan. The evening will include a poetry reading by McClellan and commentary by Dizikes. The two will also show slides of the work of the painters featured in the book, among them Cezanne, Matisse, O'Keefe, and Pollock.
