Getting it Together, Keeping it Together: A Women's Well-being Workshop will be held on Saturday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the College Eight Red Room. This popular workshop can help you focus on what's right (rather than wrong) with your life and get set for the school year. Presented by Alfrieda Wilkins, CSUMB's Wellness Consultant. Santa Cruz City Council candidates have been invited to a series of "Meet the Candidates" forums on campus, sponsored by the Diversity Education Program. The forums are being held on Fridays through October from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. and are open to staff, students, and faculty. The forums take place in the Cowell Student Health Center Conference Room. The lineup for the remaining Fridays is as follows: October 16: Linda Steinau and Rod Quartararo; October 23: Christopher Krohn and Keith Sugar; and October 30: Jane Walton. Volunteers Needed! UCSC Athletics is seeking adults interested in volunteering to work at home basketball and volleyball events. This is a great opportunity for community members to learn more about UCSC athletics and be a part of exciting sports action.

Volunteers are needed to assist with:
* Ticket taking at games
* Concessions stand sales supervisors
* Public address announcer (experienced only)
* General event supervision

UCSC will provide:
* A great t-shirt and/or polo shirt
* A meal at every event
* The best seat in the house for UCSC athletics

The Recreation Office offers inexpensive drop-in fitness classes for staff and faculty. Classes are held from noon to 1 p.m. "Stretch and Strengthen" classes are Mondays and Wednesdays in the Activity Room at the East Field House. "Yoga Stretch" classes are Thursdays and Fridays in the Martial Arts Room at the East Field House. Classes cost $4/class for staff and faculty (or a 10-class card for $28); $2.50/class for registered students (or a 10-class card for $23); and $5/class for others (or a 10-class card for $39).

History professor Alice Yang Murray will give a talk titled "From Relocation Center to Concentration Camp: Historians and Reinterpretations of Internment" on Wednesday, October 14, from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at the Cowell Provost House. For more information, call (831) 459-4899.

"Ambiguous Calculations and the Trade and Wages Debate" is the title of a presentation by Professor John Whalley of the University of Western Ontario and University of Warwick on Thursday, October 15, at 2 p.m. in Room 261, Social Sciences I. For more information, call (831) 459-2743.

Four administrators from UCSC were selected to participate in the 1998 University of California Management Institute, held in July at the Irvine campus. The participants were Catherine Faris, director of planning and analysis for Business and Administative Services; William Hyder, director of systems and operations for the Social Sciences Division; Elizabeth Irwin, director of public information and publications and assistant to the chancellor for external relations; and John Simpson, executive vice chancellor. In its 25th year, the program brings together 40-50 senior-level administrators from the campuses and laboratories to examine critical contemporary issues in higher education and to develop a greater understanding of leadership in a complex organization such as the University of California.
