[Photo of J. J. Garcia-Luna] UCSC computer engineer J. J. García-Luna holds a prototype WING--a Wireless INternet Gateway, designed in conjunction with Rooftop Communications Corp. of Los Altos. With $2.5 million in new grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, García-Luna's team will strive to make their WINGs more secure, adaptive, and reliable under many different mobile conditions. The team also will work on a new Internet architecture using "active" packets, which can modify the behaviors of receiving computers.
