Lee Mun Wah's award-winning film The Color of Fear will be shown on Tuesday, August 5, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in Room 143, Communications Building, sponsored by the Diversity Education Program. Filmed in Ukiah during a three-day retreat where eight men of different ethnicity gathered to discuss racism., the film is a brutally honest and articulate discussion about racism and ethnicity. The Color of Fear won the Gold Apple Award for the Best Social Studies Documentary for 1995 at the National Education Media Competition. Mun Wah, a Chinese American community therapist and film director from Oakland, said of the film, "There's a lot of anger in this film...[but what it's really all about is] taking responsibility for our stereotypes, seeing each other's pain and coming together as a community of cultures." A facilitated discussion follows the 90-minute film. For more information, contact the Diversity Education Program at (408) 459-5087 or via e-mail at gwenny@cats.ucsc.edu.
