'Deep Blue' inspires deep thinking about artificial intelligence
When world chess champ Garry Kasparov
and IBM's "Deep Blue" computer program check in for
their much-hyped rematch in New York starting on
May 3, UCSC's Robert Levinson will watch with more than a
passing interest.
Dance performances, lecture celebrate Mexican art form
The campus is showcasing folklorico dance this month,
with a lecture and video demonstration by master
choreographer Rafael Zamarripa on May 16 and the
Annual Spring Concert by Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas
de UC Santa Cruz on May 30 and 31.
Staff Appreciation Day
UCSC staff took a much deserved break from work on Thursday,
May 1, to enjoy music, refreshments, sports, and good company at the
annual Staff Appreciation Day festivities on the East Field. Jan Cloud

Two performances of French Opera planned at Music Center
On May 31 and June 1 the University Opera Theater will present
the premiere of the first modern edition of a nearly
forgotten French comic opera, "Sisters of the Visitation."
