UCSC Extension offers new certificate program

Classes started this week for a new UCSC Extension certificate program in personal financial planning. Designed for people who hope to guide others in achieving their monetary goals, the program offers a series of eight required classes leading to the certificate.

The program helps prepare students for jobs in banking, real estate, human resources, development, and other fields, says program manager Valerie Sermon. Courses are also open to those who wish to gain knowledge to help reach their own financial goals, she says.

UCSC Extension's certificate program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. The registration enables graduates to take a nationwide test to earn the professional designation of Certified Financial Planner, says Sermon. UC Extension offices in Riverside, Irvine, and Berkeley also offer the certificate program.
