Cornel West will be the keynote speaker at UCSC's thirteenth annual convocation in memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. The convocation will take place on Monday, January 27, at 4 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theater.

Scientists convene to discuss Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty
UCSC seismologist Thorne Lay cochaired a session at last month's meeting of the American Geophysical Union at which researchers discussed the extraordinary scientific challenges posed by the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. Other research from UCSC was also featured at the fall meeting.

 

 
GPA option is approved by Academic Senate
By a two-to-one margin, members of the Academic Senate have approved a proposal that will permit UCSC students--beginning next fall--to request letter grades for all classes and accumulate a grade-point average.

UC president comments on preliminary injunction against Proposition 209
In a letter to UC chancellors, President Atkinson says the order by U.S. District Court Judge Thelton Henderson requires that the university stop enforcement of Proposition 209 for now.

Date selected for Chancellor Greenwood's inauguration
