Three selected to receive Alumni Association's annual awards
An innovative teacher, a trailblazing scientist, and a supportive employee have won the three top awards given annually by UCSC's Alumni Association.

Faculty member receives $300,000 EPA grant for open-space research
Daniel Press, an assistant professor of environmental studies, has received a grant for $304,782 from the federal Environmental Protection Agency to study the role local governments play in the preservation of open space in California.

Horticulture endowment established in honor of longtime library volunteer
Two sons colluded in a self-described conspiracy involving their mother, and before they were done they had inveigled respectable members of the local community, top campus administrators, and three former chancellors to join in the scheme.
