Chancellor Greenwood joined nearly 50 other members of the campus community in a candlelight vigil Wednesday, December 4, to remember people who have died as well as celebrate the lives of those who are living with AIDS.

Held on campus each year at nighttime on or near World AIDS Day (December 1), the vigil took place in the afternoon this year to get more faculty, staff, and students involved. More than twice as many people participated this year than last year, said Jennifer Austin (left of chancellor), UCSC's health education/HIV prevention coordinator.

During the vigil in front of McHenry Library, Chancellor Greenwood asked the audience to join her "not only in remembering those who we have lost," but also in pledging "to do our personal best to ensure this disease gets stopped." (Photos: Francine Tyler)
