Alumni News: Distinguished Visiting Professor selected by Alumni Association

Distinguished Visiting Professor selected by Alumni Association Konstanty Gebert, an internationally known Polish journalist and political columnist, has been selected as the Alumni Association's Distinguished Visiting Professor for 1994-95. An active member of Poland's democratic opposition movement, he cofounded the Warsaw branch of Solidarity. His articles on Polish- Jewish relations and on relations between church and state--many of which have appeared in Poland's underground newspapers--have provoked lively public debate. Since 1992, he has covered the wars in the former Yugoslavia and has made over a dozen trips to the region.

Gebert taught a winter-quarter class at Stevenson College on contemporary issues in east and central Europe. His course complemented Stevenson's strong programs in languages, European history, international politics, and sociology.
