Cowell College '69 Marion HOWARD Hoekenga is a freelance artist, a substitute teacher, a library assistant at the Boulder City (Nev.) library, and the mother of two daughters.

'70 Guy BECKWITH was featured recently on the History Channel's program On Campus, lecturing on the role played by mythology in ancient civilization; he also received the Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award for 1995-96 from the Auburn University Alumni Association. After living for eighteen years on the Mendocino Coast, where she taught in the public schools, Rebecca RAY has relocated to the Monterey Bay Area with the intent of using her background in marine science.

'79 Elizabeth BOWEN is library director at the Thacher School, an independent boarding school in Ojai, Calif., where she lives with her husband and two children. John LEECH is marketing and sales manager for Westminster John Knox Press in Louisville, Ky. Diane MANNING is localization business manager with Sun Microsystems; she and her husband are expecting their first child in July 1996.

'85 Catherine BREITMAN Cormier is the mother of a baby girl, Josephine Leigh Cormier, born in October 1995.

'87 Kirsten NIESAR is the administrative assistant at Rust Ridge Ranch Winery and Bed and Breakfast and president of the Wine Hospitality Organization of Napa Valley; she also teaches ESL to immigrant workers.

'91 Sarah ALEXANDER is completing a master's in art history at SUNY-Stony Brook. Elisa GORDON is working on her doctorate in medical anthropology at Case Western Reserve University. James Todd GRIFFIN is a C.P.A. with Arthur Andersen in Sacramento. Jose Salvador JIMENEZ works as an actuarial consultant in Los Angeles and lives in La Puente with his wife Gerarda PAGSOLINGAN (Cowell '92) and their two daughters. Wendy WERST is working on her master's degree in counseling at San Francisco State University.

'92 Laura EDEEN received an M.A. in education from Chapman University and is now teaching arts and crafts at Carmel Middle School. Kate FARNADY has moved to San Francisco to take a job in editorial development at HotWired, Wired Magazine's on-line sibling. After receiving her M.B.A. in international management from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and an M.A. in French from UC Santa Barbara, Susan LEACH is pursuing a career in the wine industry.

'95 Kim WILLIAMS-Guillen is pursuing a doctoral degree in physical anthropology at New York University.

Stevenson College '70 Julie LEPICK Burns lives in San Francisco and has worked for three years as a consultant providing market research to high- technology companies. Nina SUNTZEFF Zagaris is enrolled in master's programs in museum studies at John F. Kennedy University in Orinda, Calif., and multicultural art curating at CSU-Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif.

'71 Tim CRANDELL is deputy director of Washington State's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit; he prosecutes medical providers and institutions for falsely billing health care payors.

'73 Cyrel GABLE lives with her husband and two children in Corvallis, Ore., where she is a member of the local school board and runs therapy groups for women molested as children. Gail ODOM Rosen has retired from urban planning and is actively pursuing parenting, photography, and gardening in Lafayette, Calif.

'74 John CHAPMAN is teaching high school English in Lodi, Calif.

'84 Tom CARROLL is living in Taipei, Taiwan, with his wife and two children and working at an international law firm. Anne HEDGES is "learning more than she ever imagined about the U.S. welfare system" working as an English instructor for the Office of Employment and Training in the Department of Health and Human Services in Marin County.

'86 Hillevi WYMAN recently completed an M.L.S. and is working as a researcher for the Development Office at Santa Clara University.

'87 Lucy KEMNITZER is teaching preschool and parenting classes, along with substitute teaching and writing about child development and child advocacy; she and Ted TROLLMAN (Stevenson '72) have a 17-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter.

'88 Michael FRIEDRICHS passed the California Bar Exam and is practicing law in Escondido, Calif.

'90 Luz Elena COBIAN works for Community Housing Services Head Start as a family service associate.

'91 Kirsten DAVIDSON-Bates is certified through the National Center for Montessori Education to teach primary Montessori School. Joanne SALUSTRI-Cherep works for an international consulting firm in San Francisco and lives in the Bay Area with her husband and his daughter.

'92 Raymond KONG is a senior software engineer with Xilinx and is currently working in the area of FPGA routing.

'94 Shelly WALTHER is working on a master's in marine and estuarine science at the University of Maryland.

Crown College '69 Fr. Patrick DOOLING, parish priest of St. Joseph's Catholic Community in Capitola, Calif., gave a retreat in San Juan Bautista titled "The Way Up is the Way Down." Richard PEARSON is transportation projects manager for the city of Martinez, Calif.

'70 Mario GUZMAN is completing a master's in comparative literature and recovering from cancer. Jeffrey SUE is working as a radiologist in Honolulu.

'71 Marietta Louise GUTH Bartoletti and her husband are living in Moscow, and she is consulting in the area of investments in Eastern Europe. William PROBERT was named southern California's marketing director of the year at the 1996 National Association of Home Builders convention for his success in marketing nearly two dozen residential projects throughout California.

'73 Tom BELICK is working as a supervising-level environmental engineer for EKI Consultants in San Mateo, Calif., and living in Millbrae with his wife Margaret. Mark FISHER and his wife, Julia Phillips, announce the birth of their daughter Sarah Hannah Fisher on February 24, 1996.

'85 Chris CANDELL is enjoying increased responsibility as an assistant planner for the city of Lafayette, Calif., and is restoring old ships for the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

'86 John SCHMUCK received a place in the New Glass Review #17, a publication of the Corning Museum of Glass acknowledging the 100 most innovative works in glass for the year.

'88 Jill BRUMBAUGH Bekaert and husband Gilles BEKAERT (Crown '90) will return to UCSC in fall '96 to lead the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, a student religious group. Herb MORGAN is regional vice president of J. W. Seligman and Co.; he's married with two children, Spencer and Hope.

'89 Eva KOJNOK obtained an M.D. from the University of Rochester and is completing residency training in internal medicine in Rochester, N.Y.

'91 Ellen REITERMAN volunteers on a local public-access cable show, runs lights at Masquers Playhouse in Pt. Richmond, Calif., studies tap dance, and is participating in a play reading/performance group.

'92 Frank CHIANG received a master's in business taxation from the University of Southern California and is working as a tax specialist at Peat Marwick in Washington, D.C. Catherine KING bought a home with a huge yard for her dog in Sacramento. Stuart MEYLER is working as a market analyst for Micro-warehouse in Norwalk, Conn.

'93 Following her work as a field organizer for Willie Brown's successful 1995 mayoral campaign, Rebecca PROZAN is working as a special assistant to the San Francisco mayor. Joy ZIMMERMAN married David LAWSON (Crown '94) in March 1996; Joy is working on her M.A. in counseling psychology at CSU- Sacramento, and David is a systems administrator at Lawson Mechanical.

'94 Leanne Robyn KETTERLIN received a teaching credential from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is teaching biology at Paso Robles High School in Paso Robles, Calif.

Merrill College '73 Terry TEAYS taught a course in satellite astronomy in which students got to operate a NASA satellite (IUE) and collect their own science data.

'74 Mike EATON directs the Nature Conservancy's Cosumnes River Watershed Project and is encouraging his fifteen-year-old son to consider UCSC.

'77 Katherine BRYON lives in southern Oregon with her husband, Todd KOTLER (Crown '77), and their two sons, and she directs a private agency that does management support for non-profit agencies in the state.

'80 Duane BERGER is coauthor of The Facilitator's Guide to Participatory Decision Making, published by New Society Publishers.

'82 Dale HATHAWAY is associate professor of political science at Butler University; he is beginning a sabbatical with research focused on labor politics in the U.S. and Mexico.

'85 Nancy BERGLASS was awarded a Kellogg National Leadership Fellowship in 1994 and is working as a program officer at the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation in Los Angeles. Laura ROUDEBUSH Levandowski is living in Bangkok with her husband, teaching kindergarten at an international school, and finishing her thesis on sudden infant death syndrome for an M.A. in clinical psychology from St. Mary's College.

'90 Carolyn CHERRY works as a school psychologist in Minneapolis, and she recently wrote an article for the National Association of School Psychologists titled "Effective and Efficient: An Examination of Effective Teaching and Developmentally Appropriate Practice." Karen CRUMP works with the Information Service on Latin America, which is now in its 25th year. Luis Vela GUEVARA is receiving a master's in government and continuing on with Ph.D. studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Chris HALL is a freelance journalist writing about health care. Walter LEVISON is a consulting forester to PG&E and a freelance Thai language interpreter. Eric Roring PESIK is in his last year of law school at Monterey College of Law.

'92 RoseMary DIAZ works as a tutor for the Title V/Indian Education Program in the Santa Fe, N. Mex., public schools, and she gave birth to a daughter, Atlanta Ray Keil, in November 1995.

'93 Lee ROBINSON is finishing his single subject social studies credential and substitute teaching.

Porter College '72 John COFFEY is practicing general dentistry in Santa Cruz and is a clinical instructor of dental hygiene at Cabrillo College. Alex ROSSI is sales engineer for Micro-Swiss in Pleasanton, Calif. Baldwin VAN DER BIJL is the department chair of computer science at Clackamas Community College near Portland, Ore.; he and his wife recently celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary.

'73 Jennifer COOK is the executive editor of Fitness magazine and is married to artist Rudy Vavra.

'74 Teresa McNEIL MacLean was scheduled to exhibit her drawings and watercolors at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley June 1 through July 15, 1996.

'79 Holly HEAVER is an M.D. in practice with her husband and three other partners at Sophia Meyer Medical in Fort Smith, Ark.

'82 Michael HAND is corporate counsel at Winterland Productions, an MCA company.

'88 David "Berry" WEST is a licensed chiropractor practicing in San Jose at Ultimate Health Chiropractic.

'89 Julie HAWKINS has been named an associate of the firm Baker & Hostetler, Counsellors at Law, in Washington, D.C.

'90 Liz LARSON is in law school at the University of Wisconsin and is senior note and comment editor of the Law Review.

'92 Jefferson STAUDER is one of three prizewinners in the 33rd annual Dana Pond Painting Competition at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; the Pond prizes honor students who, in the opinion of the faculty, have done the most meritorious work during the academic year.

'93 Stacey LEWIS is living in San Francisco and is employed by City Lights Books as a publicist and an editorial assistant. Kevin LIPSKI married classmate Rebecca ENGELMORE (College Eight '91) in September 1995 in Las Vegas. Drew STRIZIK works in a locally owned photo lab in Aptos, Calif., and recently returned from an eight-month, around-the-world photo excursion.

'95 Matthew AZEVEDA and Eli KELTNER miss "all the crazy hall antics" with each other, "doing such things as hall Frisbee, Hefty- bag water bomb silliness, and group Ab's of Steel parties." Alex GLASS is working in the legal department of Seagate Technology in Scotts Valley.

'82 Traci STYNER Schaible is living in San Diego, where she works as a technical writer for QUALCOM, raises her two-year-old daughter, and scuba dives.

'83 Abbott STEIN is the director of franchising for Yoshinoya Franchise of North America in Torrance, Calif.

'87 Nickolas JORGENSEN is clinical research coordinator for the UC San Francisco Division of Hematology/Oncology and has recently completed an M.S. in journalism and mass communications.

'89 Dawn ATKINS is working on a master's in anthropology at the University of Iowa, studying lesbian, bisexual, and gay attitudes toward the body and sexuality. Susan BOCKENHAUER is completing a residency in family practice at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Valerie Anne JOHNSTON Stakes has completed an M.A. in French translation at Kent State University and is working as a freelance translator and a college French instructor.

'90 Kyle MATHIS is an editor and writer for Radian International, an environmental services company in Sacramento, Calif. Stephanie TUDOR is completing an M.S. in public health in Colorado, while employed as a study coordinator on a National Institutes of Health research grant on celiac disease; her husband Konrad HUGHEN (Stevenson '91) is pursuing a Ph.D. in paleoclimatology.

'93 Brian MURPHY has been teaching in Indonesia for the past two and a half years. Laura PETTY graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in May 1996 and is pursuing a career in public interest law in San Francisco.

'85 Scott ROSEMAN, founding owner of New Leaf Community Market in Santa Cruz, has opened a third store in downtown Santa Cruz.

'90 Barry HAINES has bought a house in Fairfield, Conn., and is an actuary for General Reinsurance Corporation in Stamford, Conn.

'91 Robert Llewellyn SAUL is "currently torturing software and grooving on the bass clef."

'92 After receiving an M.A. in public policy from Claremont Graduate School, Erik ALM is an environmental consultant at Metro Dynamics in Palo Alto, Calif.; he and his wife, DeAnna BUECKERT (Kresge '92), live in Fremont, Calif. '95 Garie MORENO is enrolled in a graduate program in environmental systems and international development at Humboldt State University; he's specializing in environmental resource engineering in water systems in Central America.

Graduate Studies '80 Thomas BASS has published a book titled Vietnamerica: The War Comes Home (Soho Press) about the 1988 airlift of Amerasians out of Vietnam and their resettlement in America's inner cities; the book also tells the story of the several thousand Amerasians remaining in Vietnam.

'83 Lauret SAVOY has been promoted to the position of associate professor in the Department of Geology and Geography at Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.

'92 Richard BEHL is an assistant professor of geological sciences at California State University, Long Beach.

'95 Maria OCHOA is a visiting assistant professor in art, affiliated with the Chicana/o Fellows Program at Stanford University.

In Memoriam Joseph PRAY (Crown '71) died in February in an automobile crash near his home in Ann Arbor, Mich. He is survived by his wife, Marcia GUNN Pray (Crown '71), who would welcome telephone calls from former classmates at (313) 761- 2010.
