UCSC Review Summer 1996

A gift from Seattle

Thanks to some heads-up Review readers, anthropologist Adrienne Zihlman's study of primate anatomy has taken another step forward.

Zihlman's work was profiled in the previous issue of the Review (Winter 1996), which was mailed almost the same day that a male gorilla named Congo died of natural causes at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Four readers contacted Zihlman to let her know about the death, and as a result, she was able to acquire Congo's remains for study.

Congo will be the fourth gorilla that Zihlman and her team have dissected, providing more valuable comparative data for her study of primate loco-motion and evolution. And his acquisition wouldn't have been possible without the help of those alert readers. Professor Zihlman sends her thanks.
