DOWNTOWN LECTURE SERIES CONTINUES JUNE 12 WITH A TALK ON MODERN LOVE POETRY

SANTA CRUZ, CA--The last public talk of the 1995-96 Wednesday Night Lecture Series takes place on June 12 with a presentation by poet and UC Santa Cruz professor Peter Gizzi. Presented jointly by the Humanities Division at UCSC and the Art Museum of Santa Cruz County, the talk is free and open to the public. It takes place from 7 to 8 p.m. at the McPherson Center for Art and History, 705 Front St., Santa Cruz. A reception follows. Gizzi's presentation is titled, "Is Chivalry Dead?: Love Poetry in the Modern Age." He will read poems by some of his favorite American poets and will conclude with a reading of his own work. Gizzi is an assistant professor of literature at UCSC. He is the author of Periplum, Hours of the Book, and Music for Films. In 1994 he was awarded the Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets. He is also editor of the 1995 Exact Change Yearbook and former editor and publisher of o*blek--an internationally acclaimed poetry magazine. He is currently completing a collection of poems entitled "Artificial Heart."
