To: Campus Community From: Business and Administrative Services August 19, 1999 Re: Water conservation In response to the current water shortage being experienced by the City of Santa Cruz, UC Santa Cruz has taken the following measures to reduce campus water usage: All irrigation systems have been shut down. The campus water storage tank supply pumps have been shut down. The campus's million gallon storage tank is not currently being replenished. The campus is using its water storage system at this time. Campus Housing has been notified and have asked their residents to conserve, including the following measures: University Food Service has begun serving foods on paper products to reduce the amount of water used for dishwashing. Clients in residence, conferees, work crews, cafe operators, construction project teams and custodial staff have been notified of this condition and ask that every person and activity contribute to the conservation effort. The update received from the city this morning by campus Physical Plant staff indicated that water is being produced, but that facilities will not be capable of "full" production for two to three more days. The campus is using its water storage system at this time. In order to reduce the draw on the campus reserve water system during this period, all campus community members and guests are asked to reduce water usage to the lowest levels possible over the next few days.
