Re: Wilder Ranch control burns planned

The California Department of Parks and Recreation has indicated that control burns could take place on and off through December, including one planned for Wilder Ranch State Park on Tuesday, November 21. The prescribed fires are only set as conditions permit.

These burns are conducted to reduce the threat of wildfire and to enhance natural resources within the park.

As with any control burn in the vicinity of UCSC, there is a possibility of smoke drifting through the campus. The severity, duration, and area of impact are difficult to predict because of our coastal weather. Persons who may experience health problems related to smoke exposure should take appropriate precautions.

For further information on California State Parks' schedule for prescribed burns, or to find out if burning will be conducted by near the campus on any given day for the remainder of this fall, please call their District Office at (831) 335-6318.
