Re: Wilder Ranch control burns planned

The California Department of Parks and Recreation has indicated that control burns, originally planned for Wilder Ranch State Park earlier this
month, could take place this week. The prescribed fires, which will be set as conditions permit, may involve as many as 300 acres of park lands.

These burns are being conducted to reduce the threat of wildfire and to enhance natural resources within the park.

As with any control burn in the vicinity of UCSC, there is a possibility of
smoke drifting through the campus. The severity, duration, and area of
impact are difficult to predict because of our coastal weather. Persons who may experience health problems related to smoke exposure should take appropriate precautions.

For further information or to find out if burning will be conducted on any given day, please contact the California State Parks District Office at (831) 335-6318.
