Re: Health Care Reimbursement Account and TIP

As you know by now, employees will see an increase in their monthly UC medical plan premiums next year. (See online details about 2007 rates.) However, UC provides two programs that can help to lessen the actual impact of those increases.

The UC Tax Savings on Insurance Premiums (TIP) Program combined with a Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) can reduce your taxes and lessen the impact of medical plan premium increases.

UC HR/Benefits has recently posted the article "HCRA and TIP Help Employees Take Charge of Health Care Expenses" which provides detailed information regarding these programs.

Please note that you are automatically enrolled in TIP unless you opted out. You can determine your TIP status by logging onto Your Benefits Online. Under "Health and Welfare" choose "Current Enrollments" and scroll down to "Tax Savings Programs."

If you previously opted out of TIP, you can opt back into it for 2007 during Open Enrollment (November 1-21). You must re-enroll in HCRA each year; therefore, you must take action during Open Enrollment to establish a HCRA account for 2007. The Open Enrollment mailer you will receive later this month will provide more information on making Open Enrollment changes.
