Administrative MessageJuly 24, 2006 To: UC Santa Cruz Community From: David S. Kliger and George R. Blumenthal Re: VC Hernandez leaving for Hawaii postWith great pride in his accomplishments but with sadness at losing his service, we announce the appointment of Francisco J. Hernandez to the position of founding Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Hawai'i, Manoa. Late last week, the UH Board of Regents approved his appointment, which is effective August 1. Francisco leaves UC with a distinguished record of service, having held increasingly responsible positions at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz for a total of 26 years. He was appointed as Student Affairs Vice Chancellor for UC Santa Cruz in 1994. Since then, he has created successful planning processes resulting in two consecutive five-year strategic plans for Student Affairs, which were implemented as blueprints for positive action. He has led significant expansion of services for UCSC's students, while demonstrating effective leadership for UC systemwide innovations in distance learning, for which he has earned a national and international reputation. A summary of highlights of his significant contributions is available at http://messages.ucsc.edu/06-07/07-24.fjh_bio.htm. Please join us in congratulating Francisco and wishing much happiness and success for him and his wife, Veronica Hinojosa, and their children, Kiko and Adriana.
