Re: Electricity emergency

The California ISO has declared a Stage I electricity emergency for the State of California through 11 o'clock this evening. Due to high temperatures, electrical demand in the state is expected to reach critical levels, which could lead to rotating blackouts. To assist in the effort to avoid these blackouts and lower electrical demand on campus and at home, please conserve energy where possible. This includes but is not limited to turning off unnecessary task and overhead lighting, raising your thermostat set point if you have air conditioning, and turning off any office equipment not in use.

UPDATE: The status of California's electrical system may have changed since this message was issued. For updated information, please go to the California ISO's System Status web site.
PG&E has notified the campus that it expects this Stage I alert to exist for the next three days, so please keep conservation in mind as we head into the week.

For more information and conservation tips, see http://www.pge.com/.

For a definition of ISO stages, see the Physical Plant website at http://ucscplant.ucsc.edu/ucscplant/Utility_Distribution/index.jsp?page=Alert_Stages#stage1.

Thank you for your efforts.
