Re: Metro Bus Strike

The Metro Bus Strike is having a large impact on members of our campus community, and we are well aware of and regret the inconvenience and transportation problems experienced by our staff, students, faculty, and visitors. While the campus is unable to guarantee transportation solutions for each individual, we are taking a variety of steps to help members of our campus family during this difficult time. These efforts include:

  1. Lifting student restrictions on driving to campus.
  2. Waiving parking fees for cars with three or more passengers.
  3. Providing additional parking in the East Remote Lot and along Coolidge Drive.
  4. Providing additional traffic control for safety.
  5. Supporting bicycle travel by doubling the number of bike shuttles.
  6. Expanding intra-campus transportation by adding six shuttles to regular campus routes.
  7. Expanding student shopper shuttles.
  8. Providing links to carpooling information on the campus web site.

Because this is a labor issue between the Metro District and its employees, there is no official role for UCSC in this dispute. UCSC is unable to offer service beyond the campus without breaking the neutrality we must maintain in the strike.

We hope that the strike is resolved as soon as possible and that we can all return to our normal transportation routines. In the meantime, please join us in thanking TAPS for its immediate action to provide more on-campus transportation and shuttles.
