Sharmila Tagore, one of India's most famous film stars, and Indian art historian Dr. Partha Mitter are the featured speakers.
The event also presents the 50th anniversary screening of a restored print of Indian film director Satyajit Ray's trailblazing first film, Pather Panchali, which kicked off the "Classics" series at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
The film is one of the treasures of the Satyajit Ray Film and Study Collection (Ray FASC), archived at UC Santa Cruz under the direction of Professor Dilip Basu. Ray FASC is the sponsor of this event, which was established by Dr. Anu Luther Maitra, current President of the UC Santa Cruz Foundation, in memory of her husband, Sidhartha Maitra.
