Administrative Message November 10, 2004 To: Campus Community From: Willeen McQuitta, Director, Staff Human Resources Re: Campus Closure 2004/2005This is to announce the 2004/2005 winter campus closure that will occur from Friday, December 24, 2004, through Sunday, January 2, 2005. In all, the campus will be closed for ten days; four days are scheduled holidays (December 24, 27, 30, and 31, 2004), four days are weekend days, and the remaining two days (December 28 and 29) are campus closure days. For nonrepresented staff employees eligible for the 2004-05 Bonus Leave Program, December 28 and 29 will be provided as administrative leave with pay. If, for operational reasons, employees are required to be at work on December 28 and 29, the supervisor will schedule two alternate bonus leave days during the period of December 1, 2004-January 31, 2005. Bonus leave eligibility for employees covered by collective bargaining agreements is subject to negotiations. As such, these employees are currently not eligible for the Bonus Leave Program. These employees will have the option to use vacation, compensatory time off, or leave without pay for December 28 and 29. Employees without sufficient accumulated vacation will be allowed to use up to two days of vacation leave prior to actual accrual. New employees who are normally required to wait six months before using accrued vacation will be allowed to use their vacation even if the required waiting period has not been completed. Part-time employees who are eligible to accrue vacation may borrow vacation hours on a prorated basis in accordance with their percentage of appointment. Employees scheduled to work on December 28 and 29 will be compensated at their regular rate of pay. Due to the diverse responsibilities of academic appointees and the flexibility in performing their obligations, it is anticipated that some academic appointees will continue working during the campus closure. Fiscal-year appointees will be expected to use vacation for this period, if the closure precludes their working. Questions concerning academic employees should be directed to the divisional academic personnel coordinators. If you have questions regarding staff employees, please contact your SHR Consulting Services analyst.
