Administrative Message September 29, 2004 To: UCSC Faculty and Staff From: Martin M. Chemers, Acting Chancellor Re: UCSC Safety and Wellness Day – October 14, 2004I would like to extend a special invitation to all staff and faculty to participate in UCSC’s Safety & Wellness Day event scheduled for Thursday, October 14th. The goal of this day is to set aside time to promote greater awareness of safety and wellness on campus. The event will take place at the Stevenson Event Center and the surrounding area. Classes on safety and wellness will be presented from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an informational fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day includes mini-workshops, outside vendors, campus resources, music, food, and a raffle. You will have the chance to learn about office safety, self-defense, stress management, back care, emergency preparedness, tai chi, yoga, and more! With the launch of this Safety & Wellness Day, I am reaffirming the university’s commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. We can achieve this by accepting responsibility for our own safety and for the safety and well-being of others. I am encouraging supervisors to provide their staff up to two hours of release time to attend the training classes and informational fair, as workloads and staffing levels permit. The schedule of events and enrollment are available online through the BAS Events Manager at http://bas.ucsc.edu/events/. Please take the time to register for the classes, as they are expected to fill rapidly.
