Re: Appointment of Professor Lisa Sloan as Associate Dean for the Graduate Division

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Professor Lisa Sloan as Associate Dean for the Graduate Division.

Dr. Sloan received her Ph.D. in geosciences in 1990 from Pennsylvania State University. She was a postdoctoral research fellow and lecturer for the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences Department and Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Michigan before accepting a position as research scientist with the Institute of Marine Sciences, and lecturer for the Department of Earth Sciences at UC Santa Cruz in September 1992. She was appointed as an assistant professor in July 1995 and rose through the ranks to become a full professor effective July 2003. Dr. Sloan has a distinguished career in teaching and research in the Department of Earth Sciences with an emphasis in paleoclimate and future climate change. In addition to continuous NSF operating grant funding, in 2002 she was awarded a major equipment grant for "Acquisition of a Computational Laboratory for Regional, Interdisciplinary Investigation of Climatic and Environmental Change," which has been essential for her studies in regional climate control. Over the years she has personally supervised numerous graduate students.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sloan in her new administrative role in the Graduate Division as Associate Dean.
